Recently, Safaricom introduced changes that restrict access to M-Pesa statements. Customers were notified that they would no longer get monthly M-Pesa statements via email from the operator M-Pesa statements will now be only available upon request in future. This update will take effect on July 1, 2022.
These monthly statement are sent to customers as PDF files to user email adresses. However customers must enter their ID number in order to view data. Users can also access their M-Pesa statements for the last three, six or twelve months at any time by dialing *334# and selecting ‘My account’.
Back then, the company implemented a series of measures apparently aimed at improving consumer privacy and security, in response to growing customer worries about the protection of their data. The company earlier this year announced plans to conceal identities of clients making payments through its lipa na M-Pesa network, but this has subsequently run into resistance.
These updates were to take effect on this month but due to technical difficulties, the company pushed the plan to next month.
