The bodaboda sector is one of the biggest sectors that provides Kenyan youth with jobs. Most of the bodaboda riders are self-employed and use their motorbikes for business, carrying goods and transporting people from one destination to another. In Kenyan villages, roads are very narrow and some are even in bad conditions, so that is why you will need a bodaboda operator to carry your goods or you to the interior.
The bodaboda sector has employed a thousand Kenyans who have otherwise been rendered jobless. The government helps support this sector by introducing small microfinance loans for the board operators.
Even urban areas have more bodaboda operators, who carry goods from towns to the interiors. Most of the bodaboda riders in Rural areas don’t have licenses nor do they attend driving school. They are taught by their friends and then they start working straight. However, they take some time to train themselves.
Most of the bikes used by people from the rural areas are given using Sacco loans or politicians or some rich men within the locality. However, some youth are very hardworking and even get to buy their bikes by themselves and employ their friends or use them for business.
